Teachers Pay Increase Voted in California Senate

The California Senate voted to raise minimum pay for about 1,500 teachers from 1,450 to 3,000 dollars annually. Assemblyman Edward Gaffney, a Democrat from San Francisco, pushed the measure, which establishes a statewide minimum though backers say only a small portion may be affected, mostly in the Sacramento area.
