David H. Chambers 71 prominent California hotel owner and philanthropist died in Santa Barbara after a long illness. He owned the Samar Kand hotel here and properties at Lake Tucson and was active in hotel associations and Elks lodges. He is survived by his widow Phile and his brother George C. of San Leandro.

Funeral services for Morris E. Miller will be at Carden Chapel Pratt Plices Mortuary Hayward at 2 p m tomorrow with burial at Cypress Lawn Cemetery. Miller, 48, native of Oklahoma, died Saturday in Oakland. He lived at 1504 Castro Street Hayward and is survived by wife Lillian, four children Barbara Pachero Beverley Carolyn and Jack Miller, a brother Charlie L Miller a sister Mrs Cassee Bright two grandchildren Ronald Dennis and Jack Miller and Susan and Moras Pachrep. He belonged to Teamsters Union Local 70 of Oakland.
Gov Goodwin Knight of California urged Congress to reconsider its vote against returning oil bearing submerged tidelands to state control. Knight, a California State Lands Commission member, flew to Washington to press lawmakers on the issue.
Ashland scene hosts El Portal improvement club with Lloyd Blair from San Lorenzo schools as guest speaker at 8 p.m. Blair will discuss progress and plans for the new El Portal school project started last Monday.
Funeral services for Oscar Beck a prominent farmer of Collier in the Livermore area will be held tomorrow in Livermore. He was son of the late John Beck and uncle of Col. N W Armstrong with several survivors including two sons and a sister. The notice also lists relations in Hayward and a past state legislator. The service will be at Masonic cemetery in Livermore. Al Vinson resigns after three months as manager of the Castro Valley chamber of commerce. He will leave to pursue other work, per a release from secretary Arthur Emmes. Vinson had been contracted to complete a membership drive that was just finished.
