Tokyo dispatch reports film actor Louis Calhern died in Nara Japan after a heart attack at 6 50 pm while filming Teahouse of the August Moon for MGM. He was 62, under contract since 1949 and appearing as a staff colonel in Cinemascope production starring Marlon Brando Glenn Ford and Machiko Kyo. Calhern arrived in Japan last month and was said to be in good health by on set reporters.

Canoes Upset in Erie County Scout Mishap
Five canoes carrying eight Boy Scouts and two Scoutmasters hit a submerged tree while rounding a curve on French Creek. Mother Saved From Knifer in Orlando Rescue
An 18 year old Florida mother was grabbed by knife-wielding abductor Frazier Peterson, 34, of Holyoke Massachusetts, held seven hours until deputies with bloodhounds forced his surrender. Peterson, wanted in Massachusetts for kidnapping an 11 year old girl, was captured after a car chase near Geneva ten miles east of Sanford Florida. The woman escaped unharmed and identified Peterson. He had recently been released from a Massachusetts state prison after a 13 year sentence.
