Fair conditions dominate tonight and tomorrow with fog near the ocean. Cooler temperatures arrive tomorrow as winds shift west to northwest, speeds around 10 to 22 miles per hour. Tonight’s low temperatures expected from 45 to 53 degrees with light to moderate westerly flow.
San Francisco Bay Area shows fair weather through Tuesday with coastal fog near the ocean. Highs reach around 70 in San Francisco and mid 70s to 80s in nearby areas, with light to moderate west winds. Monitored regions include the Salinas Valley, Santa Clara Valley, Monterey Bay, and the Central Valley, all exhibiting generally fair conditions with mild to warm temperatures and light winds.

In Catania Sicily an eruption of Mount Etna resumed after a three day pause as lava flows renewed down the west flank. The molten stream, moving at four to six feet per minute, had advanced about five miles to the outskirts of Bronte before the latest activity. Explosions from the crater continued through Sunday night, with the new lava channel overlapping the earlier lava bed, remaining roughly six miles from Bronte.

Two sky divers near Fox Airport plunged 7500 feet in a jump exhibition. Jack Smith, 27, of Manhattan Beach, died when his parachute failed to deploy. Alan Anderson, 27, of La Crescenta, also jumped, and survived with a fractured leg and facial cuts. Witness James Sommer, 26, Palmdale, recalled the fatal drop and questioned altimeter readings. Sheriff's deputies suggested misread altimeters or potential hypnosis during the free fall.
Former Panama president Arnulfo Arias held a slight early lead in fragmentary returns from the presidential race in Panama. With ballot counting slow, results may not determine a winner until Wednesday. Arias, a 63 year old American educated surgeon, led the government coalition candidate Marco Robles by a steady margin in Panama City precincts.
