Negotiations Continue At Peterbilt Plant
Federal mediator Ralph Williams said talks persist after a two and a half week strike at Peterbilt Motors Co. in Newark. The plant idled 425 workers as unions including East Bay Automotive Machinists Lodge 4346, Auto and Ship Painters Local 1176, Metal Production Workers Local 355, and Teamsters Local 78 seek a master contract with a 2 cent an hour wage increase for journeymen. Williams ordered a session that began Tuesday, but a quick settlement remains uncertain.

Placement tests for Peace Corps volunteers will be given at 8 20 am Saturday in the Oakland Post Office Building at 13th and Alice Streets. Applicants must be U S citizens over 18 years old, married couples encouraged. To qualify must have no dependent children. Livermore Leader Named Valley Memorial Hospital President
