Manuel J. Frates Dies In Leandro

Manuel J. Frates 60 of 514 Juana Street San Leandro and a longtime Heyward business owner died at home after a prolonged illness. Funeral services will be at St Leander Catholic Church in San Leandro with a rosary at the Rose Garden chapel Friday evening. Burial is in Holy Sepulchre mausoleum. He ran Frates Boot Shop on B Street in Hayward for 25 years with his father Edward L. Frates until retirement. He is survived by his widow Mae Frates a son Melvin Frates and a granddaughter Patricia Ann Frates. He was past president of the San Leandro Lions Club and member of Knights of Columbus VFW Holy Name Society Foresters of America and Native Sons of the Golden West.
