San Leandro Boys Club pool to reopen for limited use

San Leandro. The Boys Club board voted unanimously to reopen the pool for club member use. A new water filter system costing about 5200 will be purchased with funds raised by Councilman Mark Polvorosa. Equipment to arrive in two weeks. pool at 40 Marina Blvd. to be operated with a water safety instructor for limited access after last month’s economy drive.

Water rate hike contested by Fremont area committees

Union City Tamarack Knolls and Niles water committees filed with the State Public Utilities Commission seeking to modify an 85 percent rate increase granted to Citizens Utilities Company. The petition cites leakage and inefficiencies as reasons and notes service remains below regional standards despite prior PUC conditions.

New traffic engineer takes office in San Leandro

Philip Long, 37, will become city traffic engineer March 25, succeeding Morton Calvert who moves to assistant director of public works. Long earns 1200 dollars monthly, comes from Alameda where he led the design office with a staff of 10. A 1951 Alameda High School graduate, he holds a UC Berkeley civil engineering degree and has worked for Alameda since 1998. He and his wife Elle and three children reside in Alameda.

Funds Approved for Centerville High School Construction

Gov Reagan signed legislation providing 5.3 million dollars in state funds to Centerville High School. Fremont Unified School District may now advertise bids within two months, with construction projected at 18 months. The campus will be at Ier Mont Boulevard and Alder Avenue.

Hayward School Board Hopeful Endorsed by Fair View Association

The Fair view Political Association endorsed Risby for the April 20 Hayward school board election. Risby, one of 12 candidates for three seats, is black while current trustees are all white. At the meeting the group also elected Mack Lovett Jr. president and made several chair appointments.

Premont dance classes for young children scheduled

The Department of Recreation and Leisure Services will offer rhythm and movement dance classes for three to five year olds.
