Sailplane Crash Kills Two Near Warm Springs Airport
A College of the Pacific student William L. Bowers, 28, of Stockton, and Edwin A. Connor, 32, Oakland attorney and sailplane owner, died when their glider crashed near Warm Springs airport. Witnesses saw two dives after tow release. the cause remains undetermined though faulty control wires are suspected. The crash occurred about 20 minutes after takeoff as Bowers was hitchhiking home from Palo Alto. Deputy coroner Thomas B. Murphy and local authorities handled the bodies and funeral arrangements.

Eisenhower warns USSR would be fools to start war

Robert Edwin Dixon aged 3, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Dixon of Castro Valley, died Saturday afternoon at Children’s Hospital San Francisco from poliomyelitis after about ten days illness. Private funeral rites planned at Sorensen Brothers chapel. Survived by paternal grandparents C. T. Dixon, Castro Valley, maternal grandparents Col. and Mrs. J. G. Howard of Georgia, great grandparents Mrs. Jessie M. Rush of Castro Valley, Mrs. Bertha T. Dixon of San Diego, and Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Johnston of Idaho Springs Colorado. Donations to the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis requested in lieu of flowers.

Motorcyclists On Serious Hospital List
Site on the serious list today are Don Thomas McDonald, 28, Niles, and Mildred Donley, 31, Alameda, who were among six persons injured in weekend accidents in Southern Alameda county. Mrs Donley was a passenger on a motorcycle operated by McDonald. They rode on Fremont street near International Kitchen, Niles, about 4 p.m. Sunday when McDonald apparently turned on the highway in front of an automobile driven by Enoch J. Johnson, 32, Niles. Johnson, allegedly unable to stop, struck the motorcycle broadside, his vehicle turning over and coming to rest upside down. McDonald and his passenger were rushed to Fairmont hospital for emergency treatment. He was transferred to Highland and Mrs Donley to Veterans Administration hospital, Oakland. Reports said McDonald may lose his left foot. A collision notice was issued for Johnson. He was uninjured. At St. Marys hospital, San Francisco, Mrs Isabel Rego, 45, of Menlo Park, today suffered serious injuries after reportedly falling from a moving automobile Saturday morning in Livermore. Driver Katherine B. Taylor, 41, of Palo Alto, rode with Rego, who was dragged from the seat as she attempted to close the door widened by wind. Emergency treatment was given before transfer to San Francisco. Another accident on Niles road north of Jefferson street at 6:45 p.m. Saturday injured three members of a Hayward family, Mrs Barbara Brown, 33,

Missing Oakland man Joseph Robertson feared self harm
Joseph R. Robertson, 29, disappeared from his Ashland home early Thursday. A note found by his wife suggested he might take his own life. Robertson, co owner of an Oakland tavern and a lumber distributor employee, lived with his wife Helen and two young sons at 937 Grace Street. An APB was issued as police sought him, with reports of potential financial stress from his Oakland business. Robertson is a World War II Air Force veteran in ill health, though his wife says no prior signs of despondency were given.
