Livermore Public Works Strike Causes City Hall Picket Line

Public works employees in Livermore continued a city hall picket first strike in the town's history over wage demands. About 12 to 15 pickets stood outside yesterday, with only two showing up at opening. Strikers, under Local 675 of the Sh. State, County and Municipal Employees Union, represent under 50 percent of the department's 70 workers. Mayor Gib Marqush issued a statement saying city council and staff studied the demands and found them excessive and unaffordable, while affirming efforts to pay fair wages and provide decent benefits.
