Witness Says Reds Controlled Bridges' Union
A former Communist testified that the Communist party coached Harry Bridges' Longshore union in 1938 and that top party officials sought to enforce control. Bryce Hannon, an ex-Communist now in Reno, said he lied at Bridges’ 1939 deportation hearing and testified against Bridges to aid citizenship revocation. He placed Bridges at a 1943 top party meeting, while other witnesses tied Bridges to Communist leadership and to efforts to end a warehouse strike to protect union control.
