Record jet bomber mission reaches Japan from U S
Lt John E McCune aboard one of three B 47 stratojet bombers that completed a 6700 mile non stop Pacific flight from the United States to Japan. Maj Gen Walter C Sweeney led the mission and said the bomber handles like a fighter. The flight refueled three times and lasted about 15 hours reaching 41000 feet. Two Seriously Hurt In Area Auto Accidents
Two crashes left a year old girl and a 40 year old Santa Clara man seriously hurt. Linda Diane McNair crossed a street in Hayward when struck by a westbound automobile. the driver Roy Schultz was not cited. The other crash on State Highway 17 near Centerville injured Carl Bengtsson, with the vehicle wrecked and witnesses unable to identify its type. Both victims remained in serious condition.
