Key Rate Hearing Under Way In Oakland District
A three day public hearing opened in Oakland on Key System fare increases with City Manager Lehn Ficklin of Hayward and City Attorney A M Cardon of San Leandro among local officials protesting the proposed rise. Key System seeks token and fare hikes plus a five cent increase for transfers, facing opposition from Alameda to San Pablo and a push for a $55 000 study before any decision. The company argues traffic gains and Bay Area benefits justify higher fares while critics call the petition vague and incomplete, with hearings continuing as Key President Frank W Teasdel testifies on investment return and track removal needs.
