A and B Streets Rezoning May Await Master Plan
Rezoning proposals for A and B streets near the Northeast Junction north of Hayward will undergo more study by the Alameda county planning commission after a second public hearing. A master zoning plan for Castro Valley may precede further action as data from a field survey is compiled for mapping and public presentation. The drive to rezone from residential to commercial originates from local business interests including Batteate Livestock Transportation and several residents with properties on B street and Upper B street.

Five Castro Valley school sites receive tentative approval
Alameda county planning commission gave tentative approval to five Castro Valley sites including a seven acre Alma avenue property needing a northward Seven Hills road deviation. The panel urged dedication of a 60 foot right of way for road extension and safety access from Alma. Drainage must run through a covered culvert at Williams and Stanton. Additional sites include Christensen and Badding for a junior high, Almond Sand and Walnut road, and a Ray avenue head location.

Community Picnic Draws Large Crowd From Ashland Civic Groups
More than 1,000 people attended Ashland area civic group picnic at Oakland Zoological Gardens. Net proceeds above $1,400 will fund Ashland recreation center work including converting the old Club Alabam building at the foot of Elgin Street.
