Union City as hub in early California exploration
An informal history recounts Spanish explorations from 1768 to 1797 around Union City, detailing Portola and Ortega faults, Fages and Crespi ventures, and De Anza’s 1775 76 expedition. It notes crossings of Alameda Creek, Bay setbacks by Golden Gate and Carquinez, and the eventual founding of Mission San Jose near Union City in 1797.
