Letters to the Editor on a Fremont duo and Father’s Day mischief
A single reader letter questions a reporter’s facts about Fremont Unified School District staff, naming misidentified principals and a reassignment. The writer digresses into domestic chaos, graduation week, family moves, and a humorous Father’s Day reflection, citing Marabel Morgan and feminist critiques while lampooning household duties and gender roles.

State honors Indian teacher Marie Potts in California
Marie Potts, a Maidu Indian and founder of the oldest native American newspaper, is honored by California with the second floor of State Office Building No. 1 in Sacramento dedicated to her. A permanent lobby display memorializes her advocacy for Indian rights and culture. Potts, 73, co-founded Federated Indians of California and the California Inter-Tribal Council and published The Smoke Signal beginning in 1947. Born near Lake Almanor, she earned the Maidu name Chankulpan for her sharp eyes and once paid her way to Carlisle Indian School by waitressing. She taught Indian history in Sacramento area schools from 1942, while county school films preserved her classroom appearances for future generations.
