Space garden tests aim to grow algae and duckweed in orbit
Dr Syrel Wilks of the School of Aerospace Medicine notes algae and duckweed need carbon dioxide water and light. The Air Force studies a self contained system to recycle air and waste on long space flights using tiny plants and mice. A small satellite will test algae and duckweed growth for 15 to 30 days, delivering data remotely as it orbits.
