Volunteers, backed by the State Fish and Game Department and Regional Park, kept the area undisturbed while five young falcons fledged and migrated southward. Mouth operated device aids painting for quadriplegic artist

In Columbus Ohio a 21 year old quadriplegic, Robert Spencer, receives a mouth operated telescoping instrument to move large canvases and select tips to write, paint, switch light and phone. Developed by Dr Arthur Cloran of East Liverpool, the device weighs about six ounces and uses a mouthpiece with magnetic tips that the patient can swap himself. Spencer and Timothy Klinedinst, 21, both patients in an Ohio State University dentistry program, illustrate the drive for independence among disabled individuals.

Marines file suit to allow wigs in service

Three Marine reservists in Grand Rapids filed suit in federal court seeking a ruling allowing them to wear short-haired wigs to cover their long hair. They say they were told to get haircuts or stop using wigs they’ve worn since last winter. Marines require hair neatly clipped and longer than three inches on top, but rules do not address wigs as coverage for long hair.
