Huge New Pulp Mill Planned in Eureka Area

Eureka AP report says a 45 million pulp mill will be built on the Samoa Peninsula across Humboldt Bay. Crown Simpson Pulp Co. jointly owned by Simpson Timber Co. Seattle and Crown Zellerbach Corp. will run the mill, expected to finish by late 1966 and produce 500 tons of kraft pulp daily from redwood and fir chips, employing about 200 people. The plant, with a nearby Georgia Pacific mill under construction, will utilize waste from regional mills and logging within a 150 by 60 mile area surrounding Eureka.
