Long San Francisco Election Count Ends in Delayed Transit
San Francisco faced the longest election count in city history, lasting over 44 hours after polls closed as a million dollar computer system encountered tally glitches. Virgil Elliott, director of finance, found that 46 voting machines across 10 precincts failed to register results when processed by the new data processor. Officials cited misleading pamphlets from the Registrar of Voters Office as a factor, but Basil Healy remained confident the bugs would be fixed before November’s general election.
