Sunol residents report a 2,000 plant marijuana garden three miles north of Sunol was raided by sheriff deputies led by Detective Sgt. Frank Munn. One of four men, Seolt Abbott of Sunol, was identified and arrested after photos showed him watering the plants. Three suspects remain at large or did not appear. Cultivation of marijuana is a felony under California law.

Mercury Poison Threat Warned After Newark Robbery

Five-Man Board Holds GIs Fate at Fort Ord
At Fort Ord California AP after 45 days and testimony from 37 witnesses the court martial of 14 Army privates accused of mutiny goes to a five man board hearing the cases. The men were among 47 prisoners who sat in a circle on the grass of the stockade at San Francisco's Presidio last Oct 14 and sang We Shall Overcome and America the Beautiful while officers read the mutiny charge. The sit down was to protest conditions at the stockade which they called unsanitary and overcrowded. Also came three days after a fellow prisoner Richard Bunch 19 Dayton Ohio was shot fatally by a guard in an escape attempt. Fourteen defense psychiatrists testified the defendants were in a poor mental state and could not distinguish right from wrong. Nearly all 14 enlisted as teenagers with only one finished high school. Among the soldiers on trial are Buddy L Shaw 18 and Richard B Stevens 20 both named residents of Fremont California. Eight others involved in the sit down have been convicted three others escaped and two are in hospitals undergoing mental treatment.
