37 Percent Cut Ordered in Auto Production
Washington reports the government ordered passenger automobile production capped at 1,200,000 cars in July through September, a 37 percent cut from last summer. The plan limits steel, copper and aluminum use and assigns each maker a industry percentage to determine their metal allotment for the quarter. Manufacturers may switch to more fuel efficient models to meet the cap, with total 1950 car output projected around 1.4 million if the rate holds.

CHP Proving Drunk Driving In 2 Arrests
Two drivers were picked up by California Highway Patrol for investigation of drunken driving. John Wy McDonald 22 of Hayward was arrested after his car struck the rear of another at Foothill boulevard and 14g avenue at 9:80 p.m. Wilmot J.L. Aldrich 46 of Hayward drove the other vehicle after left turn onto 149th avenue when the crash occurred. Joseph V. Little Susan Greene 4 received emergency treatment at the scene of an accordion-type accident on Fast 14th street north of Hesperian boulevard involving three cars. Cars driven by Gordon Gagliasso 34 of San Francisco Sidney H. Fossler 3 18966 Santa Maria Hayward and Harold F. Greene 26 1459 Georgian street Hayward were jammed together. The accident occurred at :20 p.m. yesterday. George J. Ventura 3 of Oakland was shaken up when his car rammed the rear of a truck driven by Harvey B. Martin 53 of San Pablo on TS. 50 at Perrot Till. Ventura was taken to Fairmont hospital with minor injuries.
