Reagan responds as budget talks stall in California
Sacramento AP report quotes Assembly Speaker Bob Morelli saying he will no longer negotiate with Governor Reagan on welfare reform and the budget. Morelli expects a 7 billion dollar budget by June 30 with a likely 500 million tax increase to balance the deficit, while Republicans threaten to block passage without concessions. Reagan had argued for a taxless balance, asserting welfare reform could suffice, but Democrats doubt the savings. Morelli plans further talks with Reagan while criticizing the governor’s stance and leadership.
