Alive at last Major Carlson found alive after yearlong POW status

Nancy Carlson of Pleasanton learned her husband Army Major Mherl Z. Carlson was alive in North Vietnam after nearly a year apart. The family, with parents in San Lorenzo, faced a long wait as Carlson was listed as missing and later as a POW. The revelation followed Nancy’s trip to Bangkok and amid fears of his wound severity and evacuation failure.

Buried Marine Turns Up Alive in Vietnam War News

Pentagon said Marine Ridgeway, listed as missing and later believed dead, was alive and identified among 555 U K servicemen named as POWs. Maj. Gen. Daniel Jamies reported Ridgeway’s family, Mrs Mildred A Ridgeway of Houston were notified of the surprising revival. The event follows a Jan 1968 ambush near Khe Sanh and the earlier recovery of his supposed remains.

Parents Still Hoping for Word on Missing Son

San Leandro residents Mr and Mrs Roy Petersen press on five years after their son Captain Gaylord Velersen was listed as missing in action when his plane was shot down over North Vietnam. They cling to hope as POW lists released by the Communists last Saturday did not include Petersen, and note many other American service members remain unaccounted for. The Petersens say they have received occasional reports but no direct word, keeping faith alive amid uncertainty.

Kidnap plot bungled in Jackson extortion case

A bungled extortion led to the escape of hostage Rebecca Arendale and the seizure of a $200,000 ransom dropped on a highway. Mrs Johnson says LBJ knew of Vietnam peace
