A 12 year old boy used a hammer as an equalizer to drive away a man who attacked his 11 year old sister in their kitchen early yesterday. Deputies seek the suspect described as light gray slacks a corduroy jacket and a white shirt with curly hair. The two men he came with were last seen leaving after the confrontation.
Rev. Myron Herrell urged Maynard Methodist church graduates to accept maturity and its responsibilities. He spoke on relying on others, emotional and moral growth, and service to others as key measures of achievement. The ceremony featured music by a high school quartet and a reading by Joan Alcalde.
Deputies assisted Dr S Gerslen in transporting elderly Wilton Crane from Hunt Avenue to Bash Oakland hospital after Crane suffered a severe heart attack at his Hayward home. The doctor indicated Crane had prior illness and required oxygen during the ambulance ride. Hospital staff said Crane was resting comfortably with no immediate danger.

Mrs. Duanila Romero, 40, of Sacha Monls, fractured her leg at a La Bos Temple wedding reception Saturday night while attempting a fancy Cairo stop with her husband. Police noted the fall occurred around 40 p.m. and the pair were found on the floor. she was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment and later to Highland Hospital in Oakland. Her weight was estimated at 250 pounds.
A slide on Redwood Road near Oak Hill boundary dumped about 500 cubic yards of woods and rocks across the highway Saturday. Alameda County surveyors and local crews worked from the Pu Ward area to clear the debris and restore the roadway while William Nathan, manager of the turn Gliblea, faced a minor incident by stopping cars to prevent further danger.
Abhert Balaine a retired poultryman died at a local hospital. A Lamont native, he had lived here 20 years. Several crashes over the weekend sent five people to hospitals for minor injuries. A two-vehicle collision on U.S. 60 near Jogsville involved Robert L. Beck and Lloyd Brewer, with two female passengers treated. A three-car rear-end on the Livermore Dublin road injured two more, while a third incident on the Vallecitos road caused a four-vehicle scramble. Collision notices were issued to Beck and Fukuehi for safety violations as police investigated each crash.

Governor Ernest Gruening warned that Alaska could fall within one day if attacked by two Soviet parachute divisions. He said Alaska's defenses were nearly nonexistent and that the defense department plans to assign Lt General Lauris Norstad to Alaska to counter fears. Gruening noted total U S military strength in Alaska was about 7 500 men and warned occupation would threaten the mainland.
Arvin Ferretti a 40 year old Stockton relay executive died after a light truck he rode in overturned during a collision with a car in East Oakland. Ferretti was trapped in the cab and died at Hisilaned hospital. River of the truck was John Wallers 23 of Stockton and the car driver Howard W Galven 24 of San Leandro. Neither was seriously injured.
New York stocks rose to fresh highs not seen since August 21, 1946, with the general average fully recovering losses from a break a little over two weeks earlier. The advance set new peaks for more than three years across several sections.
