After two years of study Hayward officials introduced a strict measure restricting home and apartment ad literature without prior occupant consent. The ordinance would fines and up to six months jail for distributors, require securing literature on porches or doorknobs, and exempt newspapers. The vote was narrow with three council members backing the measure and opposing the prior consent provision.
Hayward city council enacted a ban on selling non explosive safe and sane fireworks to anyone under 16. The measure, supported by Fire Chief Natt Jimenez, aims to reduce injuries, with only Councilwoman Gail Steele opposing the age restriction.
