Muir Sidewalk Campaign Discussed At PTA Meeting

Thay Ward notes preliminary plans for a door to door campaign to secure sidewalks in the Hayward area. At a Muir school PTA sidewalk committee meeting last Friday gaiety for children dominated the discussion. Tonight the committee meets at 730 at the home of Mrs C J Russell with Mr Chaffier of the Hayward Area Safety Council attending.

Mrs Mary Cunha Dies Across Decoto Rites Planned

Mrs Mary Cunha 88 longtime Decoto resident died at home on Railroad Avenue after a long illness. She was born in the Azores and survived by siblings and grandchildren including Warren Wallace Walter Avilla Wilbert Avilla and June Guzzi. Funeral rites from Chapel of the Palms Centerville at 8 30 am Saturday with Mass at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Decoto at 8 am Interment Holy Ghost Cemetery Centerville Rosary at the funeral home Friday.

William Fanjul, CV Resident 28 Years, Passes On

Castro Valley widower William Fanjul, 58, a 28 year resident, died at his home on 9384 David Street. He was born in Spain. Funeral services at Sorensen Brothers chapel, 1140 B Street, 9 am Saturday. He was husband to Olive Fanjul and father to Manuel Roy Bill Joe and Emily Fanjul of San Leandro Olive Cunninghamy of Antioch and Anita Pardee of San Lorenzo, with six grandchildren surviving.

George Heide Dies at His Home

George Heide resident of this community for three months died at his home 1434 Geneva street at the Chapel of the Chimes California Crematorium. Friends may wait at the residence of Maynard Mortuary 2971 1th Street until noon Friday. He was a native of Ascensina husband of Elsie May Heide father of Luie Campbell Winifred Phi and Robert Heide. He was brother of Stella Dahlem and Josephine Lind and a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1 of San Francisco.

Bay Commuters Consider Appeal Over Bond Refunding Plan

San Francisco officials report the City Bridge Commuters Association weighing further legal action to block the Bay Bridge refinancing. Members met yesterday but made no decision. President Stanley Hiller Sr said no far reaching outcome would come before today at the earliest. An earlier suit against the State Toll Bridge Authority to stop its proposed 21 million dollar bond sale for refinancing was dismissed in superior court Tuesday.

Castro Valley chamber of commerce will name heads of standing committees at its board meeting today at 8 p m in the Foothill boulevard office. President Ansel Bush announces plans including setting up the annual Midget, establishing a year round foundation, and launching an intensified membership drive.

Tony Rose Given Suspended Term

Tony Rose appeared in Municipal court yesterday for violations of a city ordinance governing maintenance of card rooms without a permit. He operated card tables at the Hayward Temple, 529 Sato Street, owned by the Carpenters union, claiming the operation was club activity exempt from the ordinance. the city contends the tables were run as a concession. He was found guilty on two counts.

At Eden Congregational church Sunday evening a social action clinic heard Arthur K. Smart of Mill Valley present a critical view of Universal Military Training. The group of about 30 attendees urged opinions to national registrars and condemned the proposal as undesired.
