Tarman and Beelsler, subdividers, announce 30 acres in south Hayward for a 1200 home project valued over 10 million dollars. General manager Cramer says 126 three bedroom homes with 960 square feet will begin this spring, priced at town loans with 4 percent interest and 100 percent financing plans.
The Valley Center group approved hiring negotiators to arrange a three month period for Western Dance performances in Oakland. The plan includes funding at sixteen dollars per half for labor and advances, with legal advice obtained and a Sunday grounds improvement on February 12. Continued on page 2.
Two witnesses told sheriff's deputies that Floyd Cook, a 30 year old former convict, headed toward San Francisco after an alleged near robbery of his estranged wife Mary Quintile in Newark. Deputies said Cook, described in a blue jacket and brown hat, had been seen at a Newark residence with his brother Howard present earlier.
Hayward elementary school district teachers met at Baywood School yesterday and unanimously endorsed the February 7 bond issue. Miss Alles Thompson stated the bond passage is the only path to full day sessions amid rapid expansion, arguing longer school days and better facilities are needed to serve students.
Plans for a fourth Dads club in the San Lorenzo area were announced by Carroll Rogers Martin President. A meeting is set for 7 45 Thursday night January 19 at Martin Dads Club to form the new organization with officers to be elected and a speaker to outline aims. Existing clubs Ashland Village and Martin total about 260 men. Attendance notices sẽ be sent home with students.
The Easthay building firm of Dow Grown and Associates announced the purchase of part of Ebner Cyrus Pitcher’s Castro Valley estate. The plan calls for subdivision into more than 60 homesites along Seven Hills Road between Redwood Road and Muniar, pending county building approval. The property, long tied to the Pitcher and Kennedy families, is to be developed into three bedroom homes, with a sale price around ten thousand dollars. M. J. Marquis, a Castro Valley builder, is involved in the recent option agreement.
Hayward Lions Club at their monthly meeting unanimously endorsed the February 7 school bond issues. President Resl Zaballos said the club is vitally interested in local children’s welfare and urged every citizen to vote yes.
Castro Valley’s branch post office opened yesterday amid partial completion work. Postmaster Anthony Foster said activity was slack on day one while electricians finish the structure and mail is sorted at the main Hayward office for outbound items. The new branch at 647 Castro Valley Boulevard offers full post office services and will use Castro Valley postmarks for local origin and delivery.
The Hayward Business and Professional Women's Club will meet at 7 p.m. at the Green Shutter Inn. Delegates for the Bay district conference to be held in Calyland June 21 and 22 will be elected. Dr. Mary Margaret Castle, chair of the health and safety committee, will present a representative from the National Automobile Club to discuss safety.
Campaign heads adopt "Join the March of Dimes with Dollars" as the slogan for a two week drive in Alameda County. Delegates include Darrell Parkin of J C Penney Hayward and Ruby Hell of Bartenders Local 823. mass meetings at Oakland City Hall urged public support as 4,000 polio victims last year required care.
In Los Angeles, Knight announces he will not seek or oppose Gov. Earl Warren for the 1950 Republican gubernatorial nomination. He cites a belief that there is no genuine draft and says personal ambitions should not override public duties. Knight renounced plans to challenge Warren if he seeks a second term.
Alameda county supervisors unanimously approved the consolidation of Valle Vista and Tennyson school districts. The move follows years of growth from one to ten teachers in Valle Vista and from one to twelve teachers in Tennyson. Bond elections set for February will seek authorization for up to 95 percent of the combined district capacity.
Regional forecast shows rain this afternoon with occasional rain tonight and Wednesday, heavy amounts possible. Snow expected over higher elevations, temperatures only small changes, four day high forecast. Today’s low and rainfall comparisons to last year not specified.

The Ashmont Adult Girl Scout district will hold its January meeting on Wednesday January 11 at 9 30 am at the Presby tered manse on 165th Avenue. Mrs August Horgstede the district chairman will preside and urges all interested in Girl Scouting to attend.
A complaint about sewage line installation at Mrs. Davie Vierra's home 990 Turley Drive prompted Hayward police to intervene. She reported sewer backups on January 4 and that crews opened and left the sewer exposed over the weekend, with fecal waste and strong odor visible. Police documented the scene and noted conflicting reports from the site supervisor and construction inspector about supervision at the trench.
A Pacific Northwest storm delivers rain to the Hayward area with a forecast of continued heavy rain and possible thunderstorms. Temperatures drop with lows near 37 and 26 on Thursday. Snow and wind affect the Sierra with Donners Summit at 68 inches total, ahead of a likely hazardous travel night. Northern California roads face slow travel and chain requirements north of Redding. Pacific Gas and Electric notes improved summer water outlook amid below normal mountain storage.
DETHOIT UP Dodge division of Chrysler cuts prices from $40 to $125 on job rated trucks. President T L Colbert notes the largest cut applies to three and a half ton trucks. Reductions of $100 apply to three ton two and three quarter ton and route van models.
City council after a Friday and Saturday review refused to accept the Tarman and Bechtel tract 935 at Sisen and Western roads until it meets minimum construction standards. Inspectors reported substandard sidewalks, sewer connections, backfill, and pipe depths with lines sometimes tied improperly into sewers, creating potential flooding and safety hazards for area residents. City engineers cited unapproved work and emphasized enforcement of plans and specifications to protect public safety.
