Four Year Old Twin Tragedy Falls From San Francisco Cliff
Four year old Jil Heald and her brother Jack, three, fell from a 200 foot quarry cliff near Geneva Avenue west of the Cow Palace in San Francisco. Both children suffered critical head injuries and were taken to Mission Emergency Hospital where Jil died during the night and Jack remained in critical condition. Their father, Officer John M. Heald, and mother June Heald, rushed to the hospital with baby Jamie after the siblings disappeared from their backyard. Local bystander Bud Sargent and ambulance driver David Reardon described the grisly scene and the children’s distressed condition as they arrived.

Former Philippine president Elpidio Quirino died at his Novaliches home near Manila from a heart attack. He suffered kidney trouble and had been ill for some time. Quirino, 55, is survived by his son Tomas and daughter Victoria, both married, and two brothers Antonio and Eliseo. He lost his wife and three children in 1945 during Manila’s liberation. He later traveled to Japan and had surgery in Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1956.
