Revisions to East Shore Freeway Plan Approved Conditionally

The East shore freeway plan from San Leandro to Set Lorenzo, revised by the state division of highways, was approved conditionally by Alameda County planning commission and board of supervisors. They asked continued studies for the Hesperian interchange, an off ramp from southbound to Hesperian, and faster movement of northbound traffic, plus potential future separation of interchange structures near Hayward to accommodate growth.

Valley Lions Start Drive For Funds For Hall Improvements

The Valley Lions Club voted to begin a fundraising drive to refinish the floor and decorate the walls of their new building in Castro Valley. Gene Von Ness pledged a $50 kickoff, with an estimated $4600 needed for surface work, painting, and updating the kitchen and entry halls. Vance Patton announced the Castro Valley Lioness club will assist with wall decorations and plants once improvements are made, and a committee was formed headed by Von Ness with Osea Stark Arnold Anderson Vanen Patton and Jack Pankey assisting. Burglary Targets Russell Skidmore’s Apartment

A daytime break in at 514 Sevanih Street Decote yesterday left Russell C. Skidmore, 33, $750 short in camera gear. About 12:45 PM to 4:19 PM the three room flat was entered and cameras valued at $462 two lenses at $270 and an exposure meter $21 were taken. Neighbors saw a blond, five foot ten man wearing a grey blue suit leaving the adjacent duplex, suggesting access to Skidmore’s room. No items in Skidmore’s apartment were disturbed beyond the missing gear.

Boy Wrecks His Dad's New Auto

Robert Gutierrez, a 12-year-old, reportedly drove his father Norman L. Gutierrez's 1450 Studebaker sedan last night on Crow Canyon road near Castro Valley Boulevard. The car rolled onto its right side, with no one at the scene upon patrol arrival. The mother said the car was missing and the boy lacked permission and a license. Investigators expect private discussions. no citation issued.

Scout Drive Fund Tops Six Thousand At Deadline

By nine o clock last night, 24 hours after the start of the one day campaign, pledges in the Boy Scout sustaining membership drive reached 36 140. Don McDoual, scout executive of the Southern district, said many of the 180 workers could not report at the deadline and the final total would likely be higher. Six districts in the East Bay aim to raise 43 000 to cover Community Chest shortfalls, Eden district near Southern district has already raised 10 000. At Hayward union high school lunch, workers were served dessert and coffee after checking in at the cafeteria.
