Judge excuses Calley trial defense witness over oath questions
At Fort Benning a defense psychiatrist for Calley was excused after a heated exchange over oathfulness and notes. Judge Kennedy ruled Dr. Albert La Verne’s testimony stricken and instructed the six man jury to disregard it, saying the witness was under stress and fatigued. The defense then called Dr. Wilbur Hamman who testified Calley could not premeditate the My Lai killings due to combat stress.
