Rumors swirl that Vice President Spiro Agnew would quit the 1972 Republican ticket if President Nixon drops him. Despite pressure since 1970, Agnew shows little sign of softening his image as a potential renomination ally, with allies noting his limited ambition and ongoing bid for bipartisan support.
A 33 year old ex convict is charged with murder after fatally shooting deputies Donnie Reese Sam Infante and A J Robertson as they investigated a burglary. Deputy Wendell Dover was wounded and later treated as sheriff offices described the crime as an execution. The suspect Rene Adolphe am is identified and sought by authorities led by Sheriff Clarence Jones.
Civil Defense plan warns Hayward hillsides built on fill and low lands face major damage in a severe quake. Officials say bay waters could flood western Hayward if the Hayward Fault moves.
