Church Contributions Rise Faster Than Living Costs
New York reports that church giving has grown faster than the consumer price index for years. The 1940s to 1950s saw membership and giving rise, with total contributions by 47 Protestant and Orthodox bodies at 1.287 billion and average per member at 34.32 dollars. Largest totals were from Methodists, Southern Baptists, and Presbyterians. per member peaks reached 194.79 for Free Methodists, 158.00 for Seventh Day Adventists, and 143.21 for Western Methodists.

Religious Groups Loyalty Surveyed in Catholic Digest
Catholic Digest canvass interviewed Protestants Catholics and Jews using the same question to measure perceived loyalty to America. Results show Jews 100 percent and Catholics 93 percent say Protestants are as loyal as they are. Jews 89 percent and Protestants 80 percent say Catholics are as loyal. For Jews and Catholics views, Protestants 94 percent and 98 percent respectively. All three groups largely agree no one has an exclusive claim to patriotism and call for intelligent action by leaders and individuals in all three faiths.

Survey shows 73 percent of Americans belong to church
A national survey sponsored by Catholic Digest finds 73 percent of adults over 14 belong to a church. It reports Protestants dominate, Catholics a sizable portion, and 95 percent have a religious preference while the nonchurched number appears around 28 million. The study offers typical profiles by faith, noting variations in age, income, and location.
