Coast Guard Sails Search for Missing 50-Foot Power Cruiser
The U S Coast Guard hunted a 50 foot power cruiser named Ixtapa missing on a voyage from Cozumel to Marathon Florida Keys as seven foot seas eased off the Florida coast. John Denton of New Castle Delaware owns the cruiser which was overdue with three other persons aboard unseen. The Realm sloop aided by Steadfast was found and escorted to Tampa Harbor after radio contact in St Petersburg.

Mine hot line fails to log nine hazards for weeks
A Washington AP report notes a safety hot line for miners logged nine hazards but was not monitored. The line recorded calls automatically, yet staff were too busy to take them in earlier weeks. By Oct 21 the tape system worked around the clock and had 33 calls in four months, with three orders issued to close unsafe mines.
