CAPE KENNEDY Fla AP The nuclear submarine Von Steuben launched a Polaris A3 missile in the Atlantic 30 miles offshore as part of the 1964 firing schedule. It marked the 20th success in 21 undersea firings and Cape Kennedy's 88th launch of the year, the best success rate to date with 75 good firings.

Quake Shakes California as Baja Peninsula Quakes

Woman Who Survived Leap Improving Despite Leprosy History

SAN FRANCISCO AP The Oakland housewife who jumped from the Bay Bridge last Monday and survived a 230 foot fall is expected to recover from injuries. Doctors at San Francisco General Hospital said she was taken off the critical list and showing remarkable improvement. The patient, Isabelle Kainon, had been separated from her two children and feared she was pregnant. She reportedly fell about 80 feet per hour before hitting the water. Hansen's disease leprosy, diagnosed since childhood, appears arrested, though it kept her away from her children.
