Youth Held In Slaying Of Girl, 15
Santa Susana sheriff deputies booked 17 year old Merle Smith of Santa Susana on suspicion of murder in the death of Lyndia Miles a 15 year old Simi High School coed. Her nearly nude body was found early Sunday at a sewage plant north of town after a rock n roll dance. Detectives said she appeared beaten or run over and a possible sexual assault was not yet determined. Lyndia's parents identified clothes and wallet found near the body and recalled a high school dance prior to her disappearance. Police said Smith was seen with the girl at the dance and left together.
