Christmas back to the date debate, a clergy call
A Roman Catholic priest in an article urges moving Christmas from December 25 to January 6 Epiphany to restore its religious meaning. He argues the holiday is a grossly commercialized event and calls for returning to a solemn celebration focused on Christ’s spirit of loving generosity. Respondents in Lima disagree, noting upheavals already faced and resisting a date change. Some readers acknowledge materialism but reject shifting the date, favoring continued observance on December 25. The article notes Christmas origins tied to Sol Invictus and quotes Mrs. Hatch who sees peace on earth as the true message amid the commercial noise.
