Candy Cane Lickers Show Skill At Palma Park

A candy cane licking contest is among Hayward Area Recreation District holiday events. The 2 pm contest Wednesday at Palma Ceia School in Hayward invites kindergartners through sixth graders to strip stripes from a candy cane. Weekes Park hosts a daily 10 am holiday basketball tournament with sign-ups Dec 21 and 22 at 10 am.

Man goes berserk on plane highjinks aboard flight

An unnamed man on a New York to Los Angeles jetliner was restrained by crew and passengers after becoming hysterical midflight. No injuries were reported. the 43 passengers continued to Los Angeles. the man was hospitalized in sedation at General Hospital after landing at LAX. Flight crew noted the incident occurred over Arizona, about an hour from Los Angeles.

Lake Chabot to Open for Summer Recreation

Lake Chabot will open the reservoir area for recreational use next summer under a 25 year lease with East Bay Regional Park District and EBMUD. The plan includes a small marina camping complex trails and fishing facilities with day and overnight access on about 600 acres while maintaining water supply and sanitary controls.
