The third desalinization unit went into operation producing 2.2 million gallons daily exceeding base needs. A new 12 5 megawatt power plant will complete emergency projects. Total cost about 10.7 million dollars. Navy tankers delivered 293 million gallons while Johnson orders reduced dependents on base to under 1 600 with aim of full self sufficiency by February 1966.

State Buys Smog Free Car Fleet
SACRAMENTO AP Call. Gov Brown said the state bought 60 cars with assault type smog control devices for use in Los Angeles. Most state vehicles already have crankcase devices and with exhaust devices the fleet will be nearly 100 percent smog free. Exhaust devices are not required yet but 1966 models must have them. In Inglewood Donald G. Hensley 37 is jailed on murder suspicion after beating his mother Martha E. Hensley 67 over alleged faked illness. Police say the conflict arose from health complaints. the mother died 12 hours after admission to General Hospital.
