Guantanamo Base Achieves Full Fresh Water Self Sufficiency

Ten months after Castro cut the river supply the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base is now fully self sufficient for fresh water. The third desalinization unit went into operation producing 2.2 million gallons daily exceeding base needs. A new 12 5 megawatt power plant will complete emergency projects. Total cost about 10.7 million dollars. Navy tankers delivered 293 million gallons while Johnson orders reduced dependents on base to under 1 600 with aim of full self sufficiency by February 1966.

Completion Of Carrier Is Delayed

Newport News Virginia AP reports the aircraft carrier America will not be ready for delivery to the Navy on December 31 as scheduled. The ship remains in port for repairs and must undergo sea trials again. The Navy cites material discrepancies found during sea trials, noting such issues are not uncommon for a vessel of this size and complexity.

Chile to buy majority stake in Braden Copper Co

Chile plans to acquire 54 percent of Braden Copper Co, a Kennecott unit, through a mix of cash from a $100 million Export-Import Bank loan, use of government facilities, and tax relief. State Buys Smog Free Car Fleet

SACRAMENTO AP Call. Gov Brown said the state bought 60 cars with assault type smog control devices for use in Los Angeles. Most state vehicles already have crankcase devices and with exhaust devices the fleet will be nearly 100 percent smog free. Exhaust devices are not required yet but 1966 models must have them. Crankcase devices have been required since 1961 and used cars must have them by next November.

Beating By Son Fatal To Mother Inglewood Case

In Inglewood Donald G. Hensley 37 is jailed on murder suspicion after beating his mother Martha E. Hensley 67 over alleged faked illness. Police say the conflict arose from health complaints. the mother died 12 hours after admission to General Hospital. Hensley told officers he intended to “bring her back to her senses.” The son had lived with his mother for 150 years and had called a doctor after the incident.
