Councilman's Statement Sparks Dismissal of City Inspector
Hayward officials report the dismissal of Juli Polonehak, a city inspector on the Sorensen and Western subdivision project, after a councilman alleged the inspector joined a rival firm for higher pay. City Manager Hugh Gallaher says the temporary hire was intended to be short term and polonehak sought other work weeks before resigning. Bechtel asserts the action aims to protect reputations amid a gifts ban discussion and notes the subdivider paid Polonehak about $2.25 per hour.
