Diabetic man dies in prison. coroner finds artery hardening factor

Bay Area brief reports coroner Henry W. Turkel says George White 30 died from severe arterial hardening and not lack of insulin. A narcotic was found in his system and puncture marks on his arms. wife Virginia White accuses prison officials of murder after insulin shots allegedly withheld for days. White had a prior petty theft arrest and marijuana conviction.

San Rafael man missing in Steamboat Springs flight

San Rafael building contractor Douglas A. Fox, 34, took off alone from San Rafael in a red white and blue Bonanza at 1 p.m. Tuesday with enough fuel to reach Salt Lake City. Bad weather halted an Air-Sea Rescue search at Hamilton Air Force Base. Civil Air Patrol said crews would retrace likely routes Fox might have taken. he filed no flight plan.

Mills College workers union drive gains student support

More than 100 of Mills College's 750 elect signed cards supporting striking campus culinary workers. The rally led by Asian Alliance students reinforced a labor dispute after negotiations on a representation election broke down. About 20 workers remain on campus feeding students, 24 unionized maintenance workers refused to cross picket lines, and a second election date was rejected by President Wert due to alleged union hostility.

Health cost study under review by Sacramento committee

Mayor acquitted in VC flag incident in Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz mayor Richard Werner, a veteran of two world wars, was acquitted of malicious mischief for tearing down a Viet Cong flag at a private residence on Veterans Day.
