The Labor Department reports unemployment rose to 6.0 percent in November after a 0.2 point rise, with 90.0 million employed and 3.18 million seeking work. Wholesale prices edged up 0.1 percent, driven by higher prices for fresh vegetables and fruits not covered by price freezes, while imports showed a downward trend.
In a daylong session the California Legislature, split along party lines, rejected Reagan's 550 million tax increase and for the first time in 25 years moved to override a governor's veto. The body adjourned at 2:27 a.m. amid turmoil over reapportionment and other measures.
The Alameda County Board of Supervisors upheld a ruling restricting Oakland Scavenger Co. plans to fill 95 acres south of its West Winton Avenue dump. The decision limits fill to three years and 93 acres beyond the ponds, with 145 acre compromise rejected.

Ned Posey 22 of Lead SD defies Cam Ranh Bay grooming rules over long hair claiming personal rights. He has suffered short rations and a threatened six month jail term while his commander and psychiatrist weigh administrative discharge as the Pentagon argues for military necessity. Posey dodged a haircut after authorities demoted him and ordered psychiatric evaluation.
The Russian guest known as Moscow Fats visited Copenhagen and sampled Danish dairy products at the royal summer residence Fredenborg where King Frederik hosted the occasion.
The Pay Board ordered a temporary freeze on wage increases in the construction industry as it reviews conditions for the segment of the workforce. The Construction Industry Stabilization Committee was told not to approve any more raises until its chairman appears before the pay panel next week.
Newark City Council upheld its ordinance banning topless and bottomless entertainment in city bars. The 3 2 vote on second reading mirrors the first and the ban takes effect January 2. Mayor Harry Lewis and Councilmen Balentine and Baker supported the ban amid protests from Ted Tinges.
