Former Maryland Democrat Darel B. Brewster, a millionaire, is indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly taking 24300 in bribes from Spiegel Inc. in exchange for votes on postal rate legislation. Spiegel and its lobbyist Cyrus I. Anderson are named. Brewster is living in Ireland after leaving the Senate in January. Spiegel denies any wrongdoing and expresses confidence the matter will be absolved.
