Nixon agrees to contract pay hikes
President Nixon sent reluctant word to Congress that he would go along with contractual wage boosts denied during the recent freeze. This move paves the way for Senate passage of Phase II economic controls through April 30, 1973. The House Banking committee, on a 13 18 tie, refused to approve its version of the continued economic control bill. Chairman Wright Patman urged Congress to stay in session until after Christmas.
