Photographer Drowned in Flash Flood at Castle Dale

In Castle Dale Utah 46 year old California photographer Charles Gordon Spalding of Sacramento was drowned Tuesday when a flood tore into a tunnel used for the Operation Underground TNT test. Eight workers escaped as water and debris swept the tunnel but Spalding paused for a final shot and was buried by the flood. He was a Sacramento district engineer photographer, son of Charles and Gertende Spalding of Pasadena. His widow Hazel resides in Sacramento.

Former Gov. William M. Turk resigned today as chair of the state Democratic central committee amid a dispute over backing for the Stevenson-Park-?wan ticket. I. Funeral rites for Alfred C Hagerty a 52 year old Oakland hardware merchant found dead Saturday in his garage will be held at 6 PM today at a local church. Rev Richard C Norberg will officiate with private interment at Golden Gate National Cemetery. Survived by widow Roth W and three children Richard Chode and Marilyn Hagerty, he was a World War II veteran and longtime resident of Oakland. He belonged to International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 595 San Francisco Livermore Lions Club and Fraternal Order of Eagles.
