Washington (UPI) negotiators for Pan American World Airways and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced a new contract early today that could end the strike by about 7,500 ground employees. A union ratification vote was expected by Monday midnight, and a Pan Am spokesman said approval would allow the airline to resume full service at once.
Doctors analyzed blood samples from Apollo 11 astronauts to decide if they may leave quarantine quarters. Med tech John Potter drew blood before breakfast and samples were taken from twenty others in isolation. Officials said the spacemen test for moon germs in humans.
The University of California's chosen architects for student housing at People's Park withdrew citing no provision for user developed park space. In a letter to the Board of Regents they argued the current plan conflicts with urban design trends and cannot succeed given campus community support for the park.
San Jose police questioned Charles D. Johnston 19 son of Rev Elbert W Johnston of Sacramento in the knife slayings of Deborah Furlong 14 and Kathy Snoozy 15. Johnston arrested Friday driving a stolen van with blood traces marijuana ribbon plates from a Monterey car theft.
Richard K. Hughes of 24855 Muir Street reported a burglary at his Hayward home. Thief entered through an unlocked kitchen window and took more than 1400 in jewelry. costume pieces were left untouched.
Moscow Radio said Zond 7, the unmanned Soviet lunar spacecraft, is proceeding on schedule with all systems functioning normally. The probe launched Friday and accuracy details of its mission were not disclosed.
Moscow reports the Soviet Union and Communist China signed an agreement to improve navigation on the Amur and Ussuri rivers for the 1999 season. The pact follows earlier clashes on their common Far Eastern border and aims to enhance shipping conditions and reduce tensions.
South Vietnamese official says Viet Cong delegation in the peace talks proposes a provisional coalition government in Saigon, while confirming talks in Paris and elsewhere are aimed at unifying peace groups. They oppose the administration of President Ngo Dinh Diem as war mongering and corrupt.
Winnie Ruth Judd, the Arizona trunk murderess of the 1930s, pleaded to remain in California at a hearing to determine if she should be returned to an Arizona mental hospital from which she escaped. Appearing with attorney Melvin Belli in Governor Reagan's office, Judd, living as Marian Lane in the Bay Area, fights extradition.
Washington based report notes Senate opponents of germ and gas warfare testing claim a Pentagon agreement to place legislative controls on testing storage and transport of CBW agents. A Monday vote on a stringent amendment to a 20 billion procurement bill was planned, banning open air testing if the Surgeon General deems it a health hazard.
Saigon dispatch details the largest U S air raids in five weeks along the Cambodian border north of Saigon, claiming over 64 North Vietnamese killed and 6 captured as waves of bombers hit enemy bases up to 76 miles north. US reports cite heavy DMZ fighting, with 82 NVA and 8 Americans killed or wounded within a 10 mile strip, amid intel on a possible push toward provincial capitals and a call for a new premier in South Vietnam.
In Sacramento the legislature sent Gov Reagan compromise campus unrest bills. They impose criminal and academic penalties on students faculty and outsiders involved in campus disturbances. Five bills were adopted after study by Assembly committees as Reagan sought stiffer action earlier.

Democratic Leader Mansfield and Senator Fulbright pressed Friday on why the Pentagon may delay Nixon's plan to withdraw 25 000 troops by August amid a secret Thailand agreement. They accused agencies of stalling and withholding the text of the contingency pact that could pull the U S into another Vietnam style war. Senator Gore cited a 1 000 man increase in troops while warning of potential friction between departments. Fulbright warned the State Department may not be allowed access to the plan, which could extend beyond the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization pact.
