Donald New, 45, was found slumped over the steering wheel of a parked car on Niles Canyon Road near East Mission Boulevard in Fremont. The Alameda County Coroner ruled suicide, noting a gunshot wound and a subcaliber revolver. New was separated from his wife Doris New of Dublin.
Fremont officials and city employees nearing a two cent wage contract, with police seeking a 12 percent raise and 7 percent now, Oils year and 5 percent next year. Other city employees to gain 5 to 6 percent increases. Association members settled while police pay terms remain unresolved. Medical fringe benefits to shift with city share reducing to cover large increases.
Union City resident and U S Army specialist Ruscall Clinging died July 31 in an automobile accident in Angstire Germany while on duty with Augshors. A 1980 James Logan Hall School graduate and native of Okardhe Oklahoma he is survived by parents Mr and Mrs Joseph Clinging and a brother Joseph all of Union City. Salvation Army contributions requested.
Newark Chief Building Inspector Warren Harrell will present a proposed amendment to the sign ordinance at a Planning Commission meeting. The county sent back the proposal with instructions to include exemptions to avoid enforcement problems.
Alameda County Sheriff's divers searched Lake Ghabot after a tip but found no bodies. Informants provided mixed information and authorities drained two pories into the lake as part of the effort with no solid results.

A 20 year old mechanic Daniel L. Tamblyn of 6487 Normandy Drive was arraigned in municipal court on charges of burglary kidnapping sexual assault and other related offenses. He was arrested Friday and remains in custody awaiting plea.
Two Frenont residences were targeted by burglars Sunday. Losses totaled about $4,200, including a $1,708 antique Elgin watch on a gold chain, other jewelry, a $2,300 mink, a safe with $1,200 cash, and various electronics. A second victim, Vertée G. Mattson, reported about $4,571 in losses including jewelry, a mink, a safe, and electronics.
