Art Association Founder Dies In Hayward

Hayward native Willian Ke. Trates 73 founder of the Hayward Art Association died while on a vacation trip to the Northwest and Canada. He was stricken near Myrtle Creek, Oregon, en route to a hospital. Survived by three sisters and other relatives, services set at Pratt-Filer Mortuary, with a Requiem Mass at All Saints Church.

Seventh Narcotics Arrest Made in Newark Park

In Newark Community Park, Michael J. O'Hara, 18, of Cedar Boulevard, was arrested Tuesday night on a charge of sale of dangerous drugs after patrols responded to juvenile disturbance calls. He allegedly sold $10 worth of methamphetamine to an undercover agent last May near the Red Barn restaurant. A 14-year-old boy involved in separate drug activity surrendered to juvenile authorities in San Leandro. Five other youths were arrested last Friday during Newark and Fremont police raids.

Fatal injuries to seven year old Newark girl in Dum barton Bridge crash

A seven year old Newark girl identified as Athena Gimenez died from injuries suffered in a head on collision on the Dum barton Bridge Sunday. She was a passenger in a car driven by Andres Casiano of Fremont. Casiano’s car collided with Anita Berlin of San Carlos. Berlin reportedly lost control while passing another vehicle and spun into Casiano’s path. Six others were injured, none seriously.

Grass Fires Scorch 155 Acres Across Alameda County

Two grass fires burned about 155 acres in Fremont and Livermore areas yesterday. Teens reportedly started a fire near Durham and Osgood roads in Fremont, threatening 50 grazing cows until nine firefighters arrived. A second blaze along Deolan Canyon Road near Livermore burned nearly 30 acres for two hours after a pump house ignition, with 7 departments and 20 pieces of equipment preventing spread to ranches. Seventeen year old David Seymon, San Leandro High senior class president, remained in serious condition after brain surgery at Enloe Memorial Hospital following a July 22 automobile crash near Gridley.
