Reagan hails welfare ruling in California
Gov. Reagan called a unanimous California Court of Appeal decision a victory for taxpayers as the state can cross check income reports to verify welfare applicants. The ruling supports using computers and Social Security data to compare reported earnings with employer records. The Golded Gate Welfare Rights Organization said it would study the decision before any appeal. Large-scale discrepancies were found in a San Francisco sample, prompting county investigations into possible errors or fraud.
