Drowning Near Port Chicago Claims Five Fishermen
San Lorenzo resident Howard Wales, 40, drowned Saturday when a 11-foot motor boat capsized off McAvoy's Harbor in the Sacramento River. Wales clung to an ice chest as three companions shouted encouragement before disappearing beneath choppy waves. Police believe a wave hit the stern, overturning the boat and ejecting the group. other boats aided in rescuing the surviving crew. Wales, a bus driver for AC Transit, was accompanied by Bruce Rust, Charles Rush, and Duke Chris Han, with one other fisherman clinging to the bow until rescued.
