Magruder names Mitchell and Dean in Watergate plot

Washington Post reports former presidential aide Jeb Stuart Magruder admitted helping plan the Watergate break in and named then Attorney General Mitchell and White House Counsel Dean as co conspirators. He told prosecutors and prepared to testify before a grand jury.

Inflation Surges to 1950s Levels in First Quarter

Good Friday closings hit Alameda County offices and banks

Alameda County Superior Court has ordered a half day closure tomorrow for Good Friday so staff may attend services. County and city offices in South County will shut noon to 8 pm, state offices follow, banks close at noon and reopen Monday morning. Federal offices operate normally.

Nixon unveils plan to improve cities and cut federal control

President Nixon proposes the Better Communities Act a 2.3 billion dollar yearly revenue sharing program to empower local governments to meet urban needs with reduced federal oversight. Drunken Driver Triggers Four-Vehicle Crash on Freeway

A man charged with drunken driving swerved across the Nimit freeway near Union City and Hayward, causing a four-car collision. Sheriff's deputy Richard Kuwilaky activated his emergency flashers but could not prevent the crash as the vehicle veered from guard rails to the shoulder across four lanes near Whipple Road, Jackson Street, and Paseo Grande.
